Housing Coordinator
Syreeta Vereen entered the field of HIV/AIDS in 2004 as an ActionAIDS Housing Specialist. During her time in the field, she has linked individuals living with HIV/AIDS to low income and affordable housing options and has served as a liaison between clients and their landlords for those living in independent housing. Overall, Syreeta has served as an advocate for the population by demanding and ensuring fair housing practices. In 2006, Syreeta received her certification in Housing Quality standards and began to complete inspections for the Positive Living subsidized housing program as it was introduced that same year and for the HOPWA program which began in 2010. In the fall of 2010, Syreeta obtained her Master’s Degree in Education and began utilizing her new skills in creating presentations and served as a co-facilitator for the bi-monthly housing information sessions provided by ActionAIDS. Syreeta was promoted to the Housing Coordinator at ActionAIDS in the summer of 2012, after 8years of Direct Services with the Housing Department. She has intermittently served as the landlord for ActionAIDS tenant based housing program Casa Nueva Vida where she co-facilitated the bi-monthly Life Skills group. Just recently, Syreeta created curriculums for both Parenting and Lifeskills classes provided by ActionAIDS for the Access to Recovery Program. She also continues to manage the HOPWA, Positive Living Programs, Harbor Project and a variety of new projects at ActionAIDS.
