Tonya Bowers

Deputy Associate Administrator

Tonya Bowers as the Bureau of Primary Health Care's new Deputy Associate Administrator.  For the past four years, Tonya has served as the Director for the Office of Policy and Program Development in the Bureau.  In that time she has played a key leadership role in a number of areas, including the formulation of new program policies and the expansion of the Health Center and Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike Programs, providing preventive and primary health care services to millions of medically underserved people across the country.  In addition, she has led the development of the new Health Center Capital Grant Programs to address critical facility needs in thousands of health center sites nationwide.

Tonya previously served as the Branch Chief for the Health Center Expansion Branch and the Policy Branch.  Prior to her time with the BPHC, Tonya worked in a health center in Connecticut.  She received her B.A. in Third World Studies from Trinity College in Hartford, CT and holds a Master's degree in Health Policy from Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.
