Starley Shade

Starley Shade is an Assistant Professor at the UCSF Center for AIDS Prevention Studies. She received her PhD in epidemiology from the University of California Berkeley in 2006 and her MA degree in public health in 1996. Dr. Shade is the Co-Principal Investigator of the current AETC NEC and led the impact evaluation of MAI-funded clinical training. She serves as PI or Co-I for several projects to build capacity for HIV care, treatment monitoring and evaluation in Sub-Saharan Africa. For these projects, she has developed evaluation frameworks for: community mobilization, HIV testing and linkage to care; training and mentoring for care and treatment of people with HIV; health systems strengthening for HIV care and treatment; and curriculum and distance education for development, implementation and maintenance of health information systems. Dr. Shade also leads a domestic evaluation of a five-site demonstration project to build capacity for implementation of patient-centered medical homes in HIV care settings.
